I was scared to rewatchAlien Resurrection.
I first saw it when it hit theaters in 1997 and only remember the disappointment.
Then, in the years since, it was perpetually at the bottom of any ranking ofAlienmovies.

Things started with Ridley ScottsAlien, which isobviously a masterpiece, but then I got a little lazy.
Plus, my colleague Cheryl Eddyalready did a fantastic look back.
Especially with the expectation that it would be bad?

There wasnt, but Im glad I did.
Admittedly, the bar of theAlienfranchise is a little low once you get past the first two films.
Even the biggest fans of the franchise can admit that.
They’re all wet in Alien Resurrection – Fox
Not everything in it works, and, in fact, maybe most things dont.
It was much, much more than the basketball scene that seems to get clowned on everywhere.
Of course though, this is not Ripley.

Right there youve got a very cool idea.
Within that framework, we get the standard band of ragtag characters who are ripe for the picking.
Plus Ryder seems to be having a blast.
We see their cages.
We see some experiments.
And, of course, it all goes to shit.
Some of whats not so good aboutAlien Resurrectionthough is that the ideas are more exciting than the execution.
One exception is a hilarious but fantastic sequence where our heroes battle some aliens in water.
Its totally ridiculous but fun and awesome.
The hybrid then kills the queen and attempts to bond with Ripley.
Alien Resurrection, and the rest of the franchise,is now streaming on Hulu.
