Samsungs latest TV slate includes a new4Kand8K Neo QLEDand the showstoppingS95D OLED model.
These screens all run Samsungs own HDR10+.
Its sharp and bright with damn good contrast.
As usual, Samsung’s S95D OLED screen is a looker, but ignoring all the supposed AI enhancements, the Game Bar 4.0 makes fine-tuning your screen extra easy for gaming.Photo: Angel Fajardo / Gizmodo
We recorded a peak HDR brightness at 521 nits at full screen in Standard mode at default controls.
The TV should be brighter under Movie mode and closer to 300 nits under SDR.
I couldnt spot anything wrong with the color gamut or contrast.

Really, I couldnt spot a single thing I didnt like about Samsungs latest 4K TV offering.
Its a bright, beautiful display with minimal bezels attached to a very thin frame.
Most users wont go fiddling with anything beyond basic viewing tweaks, if at all.

Thats all prior to beginning looking at the AI enhancements, of which theres a lot.
We watched several 4K movies like Oppenheimer and The Barbie Movie.
The big headline feature is still the AI upscaling engine that will take old shows and boost their resolution.

Overall, it will be better viewing, and thats all you should expect.
Our time in front of the QN900D was equally impressive and confusing.
That would indeed be something.

There are very few examples of pure 8K content thats honestly worth watching.
Thats all well and good, but how well can it truly show 4K content?
Is the AI capable of making lower-res content look even better?
We couldnt tell much difference between Oppenheimer on the 8K screen versus the 4K.
None of this is to say its a bad-looking TV.
Quite the opposite, the same QLED technology still makes a good impression.
The blacks are indeed black, with a great color gradient and a bright screen.
For one, theres the Samsung Gaming Hub built into all its latest TVs.
Its a simple UI that featuresall the major game servicesand even a few youve probably never heard of.
There are a few more AI tricks Samsung is trying to promote on its TVs.
Could we spot the difference?
Not really, and we were looking for it.
Its another one of those features that would be far too annoying if you actually notice it.
Overall, Samsungs systems are among the most accessible for gaming-minded folks.
Then again, we might see 8K support on thePS5Pro if the rumors are believed.
