Our research provides the most compelling evidence yet of this extraordinary event.

Scientists previously theorized that, over a period of 10,000 years, the Mediterranean basin gradually refilled with water.

The team also developed computer models to reconstruct this dynamic.

It opens the door to further research along the Mediterranean margins.
