Sometimes you just gotta draw violence.
For his latest show, hes combining some of his largest pieces ever andsome of his smallest.
The smaller pieces are Dopplegangers, Pardees interpretations of characters from the world of pop culture.

Alex Pardee:I started making this specific ongoing series of paintings over a decade ago.
Not THESE particular paintings, but this Doppelgangers series.
This project has been my therapy the whole time.

I took the inspiration seriously, but I never took the paintings seriously.
They were, and are, for me.
So Im finally doing it.

And this show has over 100 brand-new paintings.
Also, by the way, this show is two extremes in regards to sizes of my art.
Im simultaneously showcasing the largest canvases Ive ever had in a gallery alongside the smallest paintings Ive ever had.

The size gambit runs from 10 feet tall to six inches tall.
But thats also the nature of monsters, right?
Horror comes in all sizes!

io9: When putting together a show of this size, how do you prep?
Do you have a list of characters and ideas?
Do just do one and keep going?

Pardee:Ive never done a show LIKE this!
But for this show, Im using 100 other creators ideas as inspiration.
So instead I made a bunch of little lists.

These Doppelganger paintings were all really fun to make.
I dont overthink them, I just get inspired and paint something silly.
Then I just painted it and Im pretty happy with how it turned out!
